2020 has been a transformative year for the landscape of gambling everywhere. Land-based casinos have faced the harsh realities that come with government-enforced lockdowns. As more and more customers have turned to online casinos for fun, the market share for online gambling has exploded.
As lockdowns begin to ease in 2021, what should avid gambling fans expect? This post will explore some of my predictions for gambling in 2021. Some of them are almost guaranteed, some of them are closer to wishful thinking! If you’re looking for a TLDR: 2021 is set to be an exciting year!
The Return of the Land-Based Casinos
Casinos across the world have had to close their doors in 2020. As vaccine progress continues in 2021, these locations are likely to be able to welcome customers again. This will come as a huge relief for many players, including myself. I love online gambling, but playing at a physical location has its benefits too!
Online Gambling Will Get Better – Not Worse
It would be easy to assume that the return of the land-based casino will mark a decrease in the number of online players; I’m not so sure.
More Money Means More Online Action
For starters, some of the biggest names in online gambling are also backed by a physical location. Increased revenue for these land-based companies will mean more money available to invest in their online offerings. This should allow companies who were struggling in 2020 to redouble their efforts in 2021.
More Competition Is Better For Everyone
As land-based casinos return, the behaviour of some players will change. Visits to online casinos will decrease in some demographics as physical locations tempt them away. Don’t worry if you prefer online gambling though; this is likely to be a good thing. Some sites will feel the heat and try even harder to entice players back. Expect bigger prizes, better bonuses and constant updates!
The Market Size of Online Gambling Will Continue to Soar
The last five years have seen phenomenal growth in the market for online gambling, with 2020 being the biggest year to date. By 2023, the global market is forecasted to reach almost $93 billion. I predict that 2021 will continue the march of progress that the past several years have enjoyed.
Bigger, Better iGaming Titles
iGaming has exploded in 2020. Industry titans like Microgaming and Betsoft have had a fantastic year. I predict that developers like these will capitalize on the profits they’ve seen in 2020 to make 2021 their biggest year yet! I’m hoping for more killer slots and table games. I also think it’s reasonable to expect live dealer games to improve too as physical casinos reopen.
While 2020 has been a difficult year for most of us, there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. As lockdowns ease and life returns to something resembling normal, I’m looking forward to what just might be the best year that gambling has ever seen!
